The Euro-MED Sustainable Tourism Community Annual Meeting in Tirana took place on October 1-2, 2025, at the University of Tirana. This event, organized by the Community4Tourism project, brings together Thematic Projects and Governance Projects from the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, along with institutional actors and experts to discuss cooperation and the future of sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean.
Cool Noons was represented in the meeting by the Municipality of Lisbon, with Maria Telhado and Luis Dias, as one of the projects focusing on Climate Change Adaptation.
The meeting developed on two days: on October 1, the projects discussed their strengh and innovative approaches to the climate changing, the obstacles, the challenges and the strategies to overcome difficulties.
Cool Noons represents a virtuous example of a cooperative project, involving 5 pilot cities and 9 partners, with a participatory and bottom-up approach to the challenges of a changing climate: by listening to the voices of the ones who are directly affected by heatwaves and increasing temperature in Mediterranean cities, it ivestigates and implements possible solutions to improve thermal comfort and create more resilient urban environments.
On the second day of the annual meeting, the four clusters that make up the Sustainable Tourism Community within Euro MED were divided into four groups for a full day of workshops and discussions: Innovation and Technology Capacities, Circular Economy, Climate Change Adaptation, Nature and Biodiversity. The group works finshed with a moment of final restitution in plenary, where results and key messages will be shared in preparation of 2026 annual meeting in Barcelona.
Deep attention was brought on the theme of transferability of the results, which is a key topic fo Cool Noons project: the process and progress of Cool Noons represents a scalable and transferrable strategy for the cities that wish to take action, starting from small scale interventions that can have a wide, concrete and measurable impact on climate mitigation.
The opportunity of meeting, sharing and exchanging ideas with other Euro-MED projects is a great chance to be aware of the ongoing actions to tackle a very contemporary issues, such as the climate changes.
