Budva and the Cool Noons Project: Sustainability and Thermal Comfort for Residents and Tourists

28/11/2024
Budva, a charming coastal city in Montenegro, boasts over 2,500 years of history, with its medieval Old Town attracting visitors from around the world. Beyond its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, Budva is now also at the forefront of urban sustainability.
As part of the Cool Noons project, the city has mapped its coolest areas, both outdoors and indoors, including parks, fountains, museums, and libraries. This mapping has been essential in identifying key spots that provide a pleasant microclimate, even during heat waves, thereby enhancing thermal comfort for both residents and tourists. This information has paved the way for new routes designed to offer relief during hot periods, providing refreshment zones for all who visit the city.
One innovative feature of Budva’s involvement in the project is the creation of two strategic paths that combine nature, culture, and thermal comfort. These routes include unique points of interest, cool buildings, water sources, and tourist information offices, providing refreshing spaces for residents and visitors alike.
To further enhance the experience, thermometers will be installed along the routes to monitor temperature and humidity. The data collected will be invaluable in assessing the paths’ effectiveness and in developing even more sustainable solutions for the summer of 2025. The goal is to create routes that not only highlight Budva’s beauty and cultural heritage but are also functional and environmentally friendly.
